Environmental Modeling

Picture
The Blackstone Headwaters Coalition uses an enviroscape model to engage classrooms and stakeholders at public events.

The Enviroscape Model demonstrates the effect land use has on water ways. The instructor places fertilizer and animal waste at different points on the 3-D map. Then they would simulate a rain storm, as the waters flows over the map it picks up the fertilizer and dirt. This water then enters the nearest body of water.

A grant from the Heritage Corridor and partnerships with Mass Audubon and McGrath Elementary was able to make this learning experience possible. This program provided lesson plans, outdoor gardens and field trips to teach environmental responsibility.
